SANGIT COLLEGE
The primary objective of Sangit College is to provide advanced training in vocal and tabla and support in syllabus development and teaching methodology for teachers. Students travel from different cities to London for training.
Sangit College provides a service to agencies, organisations, teachers and students, in both the public and private sectors, wishing to improve their skills and knowledge, and responds to general enquiries from the public about educational and performance matters.
Short courses are available in Tabla playing, Tabla accompaniment, improvisation, and Indian music and dance theory. These are designed according to specific requirements such as goals and length.
Sangit College offers tuition in Tabla playing and Indian music theory and appreciation in Harrow and Southall. Please contact us for details.
Vocational Arts Training Agency (VATA)

SANGITANJALI
This is a music society and is a registered member of the National Federation of Music Societies. It holds meetings at which there are recitals of Indian classical music and dance and performing opportunities for students and amateurs. Its members are making links with other community groups with the aim of having other cultures represented in their programming and among its membership.
SAMPOORNA SANGEET MELA
This is a competitive festival and is a registered member of the British Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech. For logistical reasons so far the festival has been a two-day event catering for approximately 150 competitors in sections for North and South Indian music and dance styles. The festival was conceived as a multicultural event and is developing a strategy to target other music and dance forms that are a feature of London and the UK today.
SANGIT PROMOTIONS
Visiting artists attached to one of the above projects, and students and amateur artists who have excelled in Sangit Examinations or in Sampoorna Sangeet Mela, are promoted through concerts and net-working.
Sangit Examinations administers the examinations for three awarding bodies in several centres in the UK and Europe. The examination board assists in strengthening cultural links with different countries such as Norway, Sweden, Germany, Canada, USA and India.
Sangit Examinations provides children and adults of all ages who are pursuing studies in music or dance in the private or public sectors with access to accredited qualifications. Between 300 and 600 candidates appear every year with many more students having their training guided by our syllabuses. These qualifications have great significance for students; for example they are recognised for eligibility for music places at schools such as Mill Hill County High School, and, Watford Grammar School for Boys and for Girls.
An association with Trinity College London is currently being forged to ensure improvement and innovation for the benefit of candidates, teachers and partner institutions.
FUTURE WORK
One of the main objectives of PRSSV at present is to have a building-based focal point for its activities. The projects it currently runs provide a strong foundation on which to establish and run a centre, and to build its future work.
Future activities of PRSSV will focus on the development of:
- programmes and services in the cultures of the Caribbean in order to foster excellence in traditional forms as well as in cross cultural activities;
- resource materials in the form of textbooks, graded listening etc. for students of non-western musical instruments, singing and dancing;
- distance learning programmes including on-line learning; and
- multi-media projects.
