Dr.
Puru Dadheech
The
nationally renowned two some, Puru and Vibha Dadheech have
carved rich'e in the world of Kathak dance both as performers
and scholars. Coming from illustrious families they have
dedicated their lives to the advancement and propagation
of this deeply traditional form of Indian classical dance.
Dr.
Puru Dadheech is a well-known name in the field of Kathak
dance as an excellent performer, enormous scholar, skillful
choreographer and an ideal teacher. At present he is occupying
the chair 'of the department of dance at the world famed
Bhatkhande College of Hindustani Music, Lucknow. He had
rare opportunity to get initial training in Kathak from
Pt. Durga Prasad and then further guidance in the traditional
fashion from the great masters like Pt. Sundar Prasad, Pt.
Narayan Prasad and Shambhu Maharaj and soon he imbibed and
mastered all the creative and practical aspects of this
unique dance form. He also has a fascicle pen out of which
many highly acclaimed works have come out to prove the oceanic
depth of his knowledge as well as highly creative and perceptive
mind. He was awarded doctorate in music for his famous dissertation
on Origin and Development of Kathak dance, and also doctorate
in Philosophy for his illustrious Work on Sanskrit Dramaturgy
and it's relationship with Kalidasa's Play's. In the same
manner Choreography of more than a hundred dance dramas
and a good number of small compositions goes to-his credit.
Thus he can rightfully claim that in theory and practice
both, he is a virtuoso. For his contribution in the field
of Kathak U. P. Sangit Natak Academy had honoured him with
Academy Award in 1984.
Dr.
Vibha Dadheech has the unique distinction of being a science
graduate transformed in to a dance artist. In the beginning
she learned the basics of Kathak from Pt. Firatu Maharaj
'of Raig6rh (M.. P.). Then she moved to. learn from the
great master Shambhu Maharaj of Lucknow school.' Having
acquired triple post -graduate degrees in dance (Viz-Nrity
Pravin, Nritya Nipun and M. A.) with distinctions and earning
Gold Medals she took to teaching and performing all over
country.- No wonder she won acclaimed wherever she went
-and performed. One of the highest award "Singarmani" was
conferred on her by Sur Singar Sansad, Bombay, Prachin Kala
Kendra, Chandigarh also awarded her with the title of "Nritya-Shringar".
Recently Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwa-Vidyalaya, Khairagarh
(M. P.) has approved her' thesis "Hatsa Mudras : The alphabets
of Indian Dancing'' for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
Beside her performances she is also running her own institution
"Natawari" at Lucknow.
The
Dadheech Couple, through devoted to retain the purity singularity
of its traditions, have also given it a new dimension by
exploration and experimentation. Their well-known renderings
of famous Sanskrit and Hindi classics have been highly appreciated
by the connoisseurs. Lyrical movements, lively expressiveness
and electrifying foot-work incorporating rare Talas and
intricate rhythm-patterns are their forte.. Their 'creations',
particularly what they classify as "Bhakti-Nartan" (Devotional
dance) have won for them a place, hardly shared by any one
else.
