23nd Annual Summer Tabla Workshop with Pandit Sharda Sahai
Tuesday, July 6th to Saturday,
July 17th, 2004
Spend two weeks with one of the greatest living tabla players.
This extended
workshop will include daily lessons, performances and lectures,
practice
sessions, and concerts and is appropriate for all levels
(beginning, intermediate,
advanced).
The dates are set. And the dorms have been
arranged.
We are being sponsored by the U. of Arizona Percussion Studio!!
The classes will be on the Univ. of Arizona Campus and the
dorms are there too. There are many places to eat and shop
in the neighborhood. You will not need a car.
Dorms Cost: Dorms are "suite" style; two bedrooms
sharing one bathroom, no
common area.
$27 for a Single person.
Private room, half of a suite, sharing a bathroom
with one other person.
$38 for two people sharing one room.
This is for half of a suite, sharing a
bathroom with one other person.
Check-in and check-out can be done at anytime. Most people
will be checking-in the day before and checking-out the
day after. That is the 5th and 18th. In addition to the
rooms, there will be a study lounge reserved for us tabla
people to use for private practice.

Pandit Sharda
Sahai
Pandit Sharda Sahai was born in Benares, India in 1935.
He is a direct descendent of Pandit Ram Sahai, the founder
of the Benares style of tabla playing. As one of India’s
preeminent tabla artists, Sharda Sahai has appeared at all
of the important music conferences and festivals and has
performed with every major artist of North Indian Classical
music, including Ali Akbar Khan, Amjad Ali Khan, and Ravi
Shankar. He is the director of the Pandit Ram Sahai Sangit
Vidhyalaya schools of music in Benares and in London. He
has held appointments on the music faculties of Wesleyan
University, Brown University, Berklee School of Music, Darting
ton College of Arts, Oxford University and at Leeds University
in England.
Fees: Cost of the workshop is $400. Private lessons will
be available and
will cost extra.
Registration: A deposit of $150 is due by June 2nd, 2004
