Sangit
Preparatory Examinations
Assessment
EXAMINERS
:
Assessment
of the candidate will be by members of the Sangit Examinations
Board and the teacher or the teacher's representative.
MARKS
:
1.
Practical
The practical examination will qualify for 60% of the total
examinations marks. This will be divided equally between
the prepared and unprepared performance.
Criteria
for the assessment of the prepared performance will be based
on:-
- Accuracy
- the candidate's ability to perform accurately the various
contents of the syllabus.
- Musicality
- the skill the candidate displays in interpreting the
music in the areas of rhythm, pitch, expression, quality
of tone, etc.
- Presentation
- the candidate's ability to convey the art to the audience.
- Understanding
- evidence of personal involvement with the particular
music and dance performed.
- Improvisation
- the ability to use the material in a relevant manner.
2.
Listening and Theory
The listening and theory examinations will qualify for 40%
of the total examination marks. The distribution of the
marks will be decided by the examiners, according to the
impression given by the candidate.
The
marks will be based on the candidate's ability to recognise
musical features and elements as performed by the examiners,
and answer questions on the theory and history of music
and dance as laid down in the syllabus.
MARKING
:
Because
the learning of music and dance is a development of the
student's art, there will not be a pass/fail mark. Instead
the assessments will be reported on a seven point scale
of grades A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. Those who attain the
higher grades are ready to learn new skills and develop
their musicianship. Those who are awarded low grades should
spend some more time consolidating the work they have done.
The
examinations have been devised to cultivate the candidate's
desire to learn, not to highlight failure
