THE
SYLLABUS :
All Carnatic
and Hindustani music and dance styles are subjects for this
examination. Set syllabi are available on request.
As well
as preparing pupils to sit the examinations of an Indian institution,
the syllabi also enable school pupils to use their abilities
in Indian music and dance as part of the G.C.S.E. school music
examinations. The syllabi should therefore cover the areas
required by G.C.S.E., namely PERFORMANCE, LISTENING and IMPROVISATION
as well as HISTORY and THEORY.
Teachers
are invited to submit their own syllabi which should follow
the guidelines given by the examinations board. Submitting
their own syllabi will enable teachers to choose the material
they wish to use, and also the way they wish to teach it.
The syllabi should be submitted three months before the first
examination is planned. This may be at any time of the year
agreeable to the teacher and the examinations board.
